Your Go-To Guide For A Day at the Beach in Mukilteo

Nothing quite says summer like a fun and relaxing day at the beach! Luckily, we have Mukilteo’s go-to guide for getting the most out of a day in the sand. From ferries to festivals, we’ve got you covered!

Check out what our fellow residents recommend for a day at the beach in Mukilteo:

When it comes to beaches, Jenny E suggests staying local: “I happen to think one of the best beaches in Snohomish County is right in the MUK,” she shares. “Our beach features built-in fire pits, a fantastic beach side playground, a substantial shelter perfect for parties all year round, boat launch, lighthouse, plus ice cream and fish & chips within walking distance to the beach.” She even shares a special tip: “Bonus, if you’re a resident of Mukilteo you get a free parking pass to the beach park!”

Known as Lighthouse Park, this hangout destination is a local must-see. Here, according to Anne, “kids can play in the new playgrounds, make campfire on the beach…watch people get married by the beach on the Wedding Circle,” and so much more. She suggests that you “take the Lighthouse Tour, launch your boat and go for salmon fishing or crabbing.”

If you don’t have a boat of your own, you can follow Jenny’s suggestion and “hop on the ferry at sunset. It is a quick ride to Clinton and back.” While you’re on land, check out Clinton Beach. “Clinton also has a nice little beach with toys for those with little ones who choose this inexpensive adventure to do on any given day,” Jenny shares.

Fun in the sun can work up an appetite, so Jenny and Anne recommend three spots to satisfy any taste buds. “In the summer, I like to grab some fish & chips to go from Ivar’s,” Jenny shares. Anne seconds Ivar’s and includes Arnies, another great seafood destination. She also recommends topping off the day “with delicious ice cream at Diamond Knot (they have great food and beer too).” It’s a win-win for everyone!

Lighthouse Park is not only great for a beach day, but also hosts awesome community events. For example, Anne loves “the Farmer’s Market on Wednesday afternoons not just to get fresh produce, but also run into friends and neighbors. I bring my dog Molly to socialize and see her doggie friends too.”

She also highly recommends Mukilteo’s annual Lighthouse Festival. “Of course the summer highlight is the Lighthouse Festival with lots of activities and a grand fireworks on the water.” Janet B seconds this recommendation: “Don’t forget the lighthouse festival!!! The race, the food, the community parties and fireworks!!!!” No matter how you spend your beach day in Mukilteo, you are sure to make lasting memories.

Getting Out & About

“Who wouldn’t want to be from the MUK! The sticker says it all. Mukilteo is a quaint community that not many people know about and even fewer who know how to pronounce the name. I happen to think one of the best beaches in Snohomish county is right in the MUK. “Love love love Big Gulch trail. One minute you’re in the middle of civilization and the next you’re far far away in a place that could be hundreds of miles away. Just a small sign marks the trail head across from the fire department. I’ve spent many hours breathing, thinking, singing on that trail!!” –Janet B

There is also the garden club, historical society, orchestra and the landmark graveyard. Headstones tell the story of our founder’s lives and untimely deaths including the young from influenza and those that built and called Mukilteo “good camping spot” their permanent home.

Commuting from Mukilteo

Train, ferry, plane, bus, bike, what did I miss… oh, yes cars too. Located at the tip of I-5 & I-405 and also easily accessible to 99, commuters have a variety of routes to choose from to get just about anywhere. Mukilteo offers a myriad of options for commuting, including the ferry that runs between Mukilteo and Clinton on Whidbey Island. You can view the ferry schedule here!

According to local Lena M, “Walnut Street Coffee brings the goods using locally roasted Vivace’ Coffee and they have the best quinoa burrito for a quick healthy breakfast option.” Ginna D agrees with and adds to Lena’s sentiment: “I love Walnut Street Coffee! Fantastic employees, delicious coffee and treats, wonderful atmosphere! I especially love their rotating featured artwork. Walnut street’s quinoa burrito is the absolute best!!”

With other treats sourced from local companies and a commitment to using only organic products, there is no question that Walnut Street Coffee is a true community staple that not only tastes good, but does good.

Epulo Bistro

If you’re looking for a fun date night restaurant or just a laid-back spot to grab some delicious eats, Bothell has got you covered! Home to several dining establishments with mouthwatering menus and some excellent happy hours, Bothell has everything from sushi and Italian to pubs and American breakfasts.

Here are a few restaurants that come highly recommended by locals:

Alexa’s Cafe

Nestled in a charming 1927-built brick building, Alexa’s Cafe is a neighborhood staple! “We love Alexa’s on main street!” shares Tonya T, and Jen B recommends the sweet spot for brunch.

Their extensive breakfast menu is filled with classics like breakfast sandwiches, “bennys,” pancakes and French toast, and scrambles, and their lunch menu is a mouthwatering selection of sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers, wraps, and much more.

Grazie Ristorante

If you’re craving Italian, Jen B recommends heading to Grazie Ristorante for pizza, lasagna, cannelloni, and other Italian specialties.

“[Grazie’s serves] great dinners with an extensive wine list and happy hour with live music weekly!” recommends Becky L. Enjoy daily happy hours from opening to 6pm and take advantage of half-price appetizers, wine, beer, and drink specials. Uncle Peteza’s Pizzeria

“We LOVE Uncle Peteza’s Pizzeria!” shares Melissa Huddleston. “They have two locations—one on 228th and Meridian, and one in the Safeway Plaza off of 241st and Bothell Everett Hwy. Their crust is the best! They have deep dish, thin crust, and, wait for it – STUFFED CRUST! My favorite is the veggie pizza and Chris’ is the Meatsa. They also have cheesy bread, wings, oven baked sandwiches, pasta, calzones, and salads. Yum!!! Now I’m hungry!!”

Melissa’s right—Uncle Peteza’s Pizzeria’s incredible pizza selection is sure to make everyone in your dining party happy! They also have gluten-free pizza, soup, bottomless soda, and a convenient rewards program.

Sushi Hana

“Sushi Hana, a conveyor belt sushi restaurant at Thrasher’s Corner, is one of our favorites. When you don’t want to cook and the kids are starving and you don’t want to wait to order at a sit-down restaurant, this speedy sushi joint is the ticket! Large booths for groups of 6 or bar stools at the belt offer lots of seating. Always great service and good quality sushi,” shares Jen B.

Sushi Hana is truly dedicated to quality—their conveyor belt-style sushi utilizes RFID technology to monitor the dishes on their conveyor belt, and no dish is allowed to be in circulation for more than 2 hours.

Sushi Hana serves up dozens of dishes, from classic nigiri to more unique sushi rolls. “In addition to traditional sushi, they have small plates of strawberries, green grapes, and Mochi ice cream for dessert! They also serve bottled sake, beer and wine,” shares Jen. We recommend taking a look at their menu here!

The Three Lions Pub

“Lion’s Pub on main is always good for watching sports and enjoying beers and pub food,” advises Tonya T. And when Tonya says “pub food,” she really means it—Lion’s Pub serves up classic English pub dishes like classic fish & chips, Lancashire Pasty, sausage rolls, steak & mushroom pie, steak & kidney pie, bangers & mash, Shepherd’s Pie, and much more!

Plus, Amaro is also family-friendly and has a special kid’s menu.

Preservation Kitchen

Preservation Kitchen offers an exquisite seasonal menu. They’re dedicated to supporting local businesses, and they use sustainable and organic ingredients whenever they can.

Tonya especially recommends their amazing polenta fries and their good wine selection, but menus change based on the season, so check out their website every now and then! Welcome to Bothell!

Known for its excellent schools and treasured for being in a central location that’s close to attractions and amenities in the area, Bothell is a city of true convenience. Located just north of Kirkland and right next to wine country in Woodinville, Interstate 405 runs right through Bothell making it easy to get around the region.

Home to a long list of fabulous restaurants and some top-notch shopping, Bothell’s offerings ensure you don’t have to go far to find what you need. The same can be said for entertainment, fun weekend activities, and getaways—from parks and community activities to weekends in wine country or at McMenamins, Bothell is a hub of fun and play for people of all ages!

Bothell’s many premium amenities make it a desirable place to live, and it’s no surprise that the city is experiencing a great deal of new construction. From entry-level townhomes and ramblers to older homes with lots of land and luxury homes over $1 million, Bothell has a wide range of real estate to choose from.

Getting Out & About

“Country Village is fun to wander around!” recommends local, Tonya T.

There are antique shops, boutiques of all kinds, a bead shop, fabric store, wedding dress shop, restaurants and cafes. Services include voice lessons, life coaching, a spa. Outside, the village looks a bit like the most charming bits of a farm, complete with chickens and ducks padding around the grounds.

When it comes to dining in Bothell, local, Jen B has a long list of recommendations: “Grazie’s, Hana Sushi, Panera! [I recommend] Alexa’s for brunch and Jalisco’s or Passion Tequila for Mexican. Also, Beardslee Public House, which is John Howie’s first venture outside of Bellevue.”

Jen also loves shopping at the new PCC in Canyon Park:

“Gotta love the Anderson School (McMenamin’s). The salt water swimming pool is open air and like a hot spring in the winter; lots of dining options and family friendly pubs, outdoor seating with heaters; [they even have] a movie theater that serves beer.” – Sam A.

Bothell is also home to a branch of University of Washington. “[There are] good schools and college options in your backyard!” shares Becky L.

Commuting from Bothell

“[Bothell residents commute mainly by car], but you can bike into Seattle on the Burke Gilman and to Redmond on the Sammamish River Trail from downtown.” – Tonya T.

Nestled between Terrace Park School and the Mountlake Terrace Off-Leash Dog Park, the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion (5303 228th Street SW, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043) is an incredible multi-purpose facility packed with amenities to take advantage of! When asked what people in MLT like to do for fun, the Recreation Pavilion was at the top of the list.

“The MLT Pavilion offers great programs for all ages, including a great swimming program,” shares local, Shelly K. “My kids enjoyed the pre-school programs, before and after school Kids Krew and summer camps.”

This dynamic community center offers so many amenities to the MLT community, and we wanted to share a few of our favorite things about the community center that are not to be missed!

Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion

The multi-purpose swimming pool.

This warm-water pool not only is home to swimming lessons and a range of classes, but it also includes a lazy river with a current, spray toys, a beach-like entry leisure pool, a therapy pool, handicapped access, a sauna, and more. Plus, you can even rent out the pool for parties!

Kids programs, like preschool, before & after school care, and summer camps!

Keeping kids busy is easy with this community center in your city’s backyard! There are 3 preschool options for kids ages 3 to 5, each program providing a unique set of offerings. Kids Krew offers before and after school care for kids ages 5 to 12, and a huge variety of summer camps include themes like swimming, dance, basketball, tennis, and general youth camps.

The huge variety of fitness classes and sports leagues.

Whether you’re into something super upbeat (like Turbo kick or Zumba) or something a little more low-key (like yoga and Tai Chi), the recreation pavilion has a large selection to choose from. The MLT Recreation Pavilion is open 7 days a week.

Whether you want a workout before work or the kids need to burn off some energy on a rainy Sunday, the pavilion is open and waiting to be used! Hours include Monday – Thursday 6am – 9:30pm, Friday 6am – 7:15pm, Saturday 7am – 8pm, and Sunday 8:30am – 7pm.

Diamond Knot Brewpub at MLT

3 Places That Mountlake Terrace Dog Owners Need to Know About

Whether you’re looking for a city that welcomes you and your furry best friend, or you already live in the Mountlake Terrace area and want to start exploring, you’re in luck! The Mountlake Terrace area has some excellent dog parks and other amenities for dog owners and their canine companions to enjoy, all while getting some exercise and enjoying the outdoors!

If you’re a dog owner in Mountlake Terrace, here are 3 places you need to know about:

Mountlake Terrace Off-Leash Dog Park

The Mountlake Terrace Off-Leash Dog Park is located just northeast of the MLT Recreation Pavilion. Offering just under an acre of space in the shaded woods of Terrace Creek Park, this fenced area is a haven for dogs!

“We love to take our dog Dash for walks and let him run off leash in the park!” shares Shelly Katzer. Dogs can run and play within the double-gate system, and owners are welcome to relax on benches (or run and play, too!). Learn more about the park and read rules for visiting the dog park here.

Marina Beach Off-Leash Park

While this park technically isn’t in Mountlake Terrace, it is in the neighboring city of Edmonds (498 Admiral Way Edmonds WA 98020) and well worth the short 10-20 minute drive from MLT. As part of the larger Marina Beach Park on the Edmonds waterfront, this park offers a long list of amenities in addition to the off-leash area. A loop trail, playground, restroom, picnic tables, barbecue area, and much more set the scene.

As for the dog park portion, furry friends can frolic in the sand, splash in the surf, and stretch their legs as they meet other dogs in the cool ocean breeze. Click here to learn more about this Edmonds off-leash area.

Established in 2010 and owned and operated by locals, Pet Adventure Shop stocks its shelves with a huge range of food and supplies.
